About us

FoodPrint EDU is a campaign developed by alumni from Adelphi University in 2020. They understood that there is a disconnect between average Americans, environmentalists and animal agriculture. Many know that there are many environmental problems but do not know how their diet may be attributing to issues like deforestation and nutrient loss.

Thus Forkability’s FoodprintEdu was born to educate college students on how their diet has a part in determining their ecological footprint. The name was expanded to “Forkability”, because we want people to see all that is possible with food. This organization is in its infancy, and we welcome support from all, and encourage you to join us in this movement as collaborators or volunteers.

Our aim is that because of us, people will begin to think twice about the weight their diet has on our environment, and be inspired to become a part of the solution!

Our Team

Alina C.

Founder

Alina founded FoodPrint EDU because she has always had a passion for the environment, human health, and how the two connect. During her education and internship experiences, she learned a lot about the environment and how food sourcing in the U.S. relates to it. Once empowered through her family, the Changemaker Project’s Global Pitch and her newfound knowledge, she decided to build this platform to educate others about the current state of the agricultural sector, how it can contribute to climate change, and what we can do to help. Alina has spent many years in science outreach and education and is passionate about research that supports both sustainability and healthy living.

Hello! I am a current senior at Adelphi University majoring in environmental science with a minor in food studies. I joined FoodPrint EDU because of my passions for spreading awareness about sustainable eating. I believe that meals shared with friends and family have a great potential to shift the trajectory of climate change and environmental degradation. With the health of our Earth at stake, I have hope in youth action to educate and lead the world into a more conscious place where our ecosystems are being cared for. There are no little impacts, you matter!

Mehreen Raana

Intern

I am a graduate student of environmental sciences. I am an intern of the FoodPrint EDU team. I joined this platform to educate myself and my community about our “foodprints” – our foodprint is the result of everything it takes to get our food from the farm to our plate. The food we eat has an impact on our health, the environment and on the welfare of animals and farm workers. In this platform we provide tools and resources to help people eat more sustainably.

Dana Gilkes

Intern

My name is Dana and I am a graduate student in the environmental studies program at Adelphi University. I have a passion for all things green and food related. I love to spend my time educating those about pollution, climate change, and how our diet makes a huge impact on our environment. I joined the FoodPrint EDU team because of the benefit the education would have on us and the world around us. It’s really about spreading the word that makes a difference.

Michaela Caruso

Intern

I joined FoodPrint EDU because I believe in its mission, and because I believe that making changes in one’s diet is an easy and effective way to lower your carbon footprint and help save our planet ! Being a steward of the earth is one of my biggest passions and doing anything I can to preserve it , all of its natural beauty and animals is everything I work for in life. I believe diet is a key factor in protecting our planet and everything that inhabits it, and FoodPrint EDU’s message aligns perfectly with my own.

Brianna Betterson

My name is Brianna Betterson and I am an Environmental Science student at Adelphi University with a focus on sustainability. I am also the president of my campus’ Environmental Action Coalition. After going vegan in 2020, I took a passionate interest in the connection between our global food system and issues of public and planetary health. I’d like to empower others to stand against climate change and ecological destruction by spreading awareness about more sustainable food and lifestyle choices!

Kate Cimino

Intern

Hello! My name is Kate Cimino and I am an Adelphi University alum from the Class of 2023. While at Adelphi, I studied environmental studies and sociology with minors in criminal justice, history, and anthropology. Currently, I am the Program Coordinator for the Bhisé Global Learning Experience at Adelphi and I also work as a medical biller for an orthopedist office in Hicksville. Beginning in fall 2024, I will be attending law school with the hopes of pursuing environmental law. I decided to join FoodPrint EDU because it was the perfect opportunity to blend together my two degrees of environmental studies and sociology. When it comes to the environment, I am interested in the social side of climate change and looking at how climate change is impacting daily lives and culture. By joining FoodPrint EDU, I was able to research the connections between culture and diet and the impacts that has on the environment.

Samuel Brodsky

Intern

Hello! My name is Samuel Brodsky. I am currently a senior at Adelphi who is an intern at FoodPrint EDU. I joined this internship because I wanted to learn more about how food/nutrition has a strong impact to the environment. I managed to look at plant-based diets and how they produce less of a carbon footprint than processed foods.
